On Eid day these things are Sunnah (desirable):

(1) Cutting hair (cut your hair according to Sunnah)
(2) Cutting Nails.
(3) Doing Ghusl.
(4) Doing Miswaak (this is apart from Miswaak done during Wudhu, since it is Sunnat-e-Mo’ak’kadah).
(5) Wear nice clothes. If not new wear washed ones.
(6) To wear fragrance (whenever you put fragrance on make sure it is pure).
(7) Wearing ring (whenever you wear a ring keep in mind that it should be not more than 4 grams, in weight of silver and wear only one ring. There should be only one stone in this ring. Not more than one stone, and don’t wear one without a stone. There is no limit for the weight of the stone. Apart from a ring of silver or the amount of weight of silver allowed, a ring made of any other metal ring cannot be worn).
(8) Offer the Fajr Namaaz in the mosque in your local mosque.
(9) Before going to Eid-ul-Fitr Namaaz, eating some dates – 3, 5, 7 or more or less. But they should be in odd numbers. If dates are not available then eat something sweet. Even if nothing is eaten before the prayers, then it is not a sin, but if nothing is eaten till Isha Namaaz he will be reprimanded.
(10) To offer Eid Namaaz in Eid-Gah (special ground for Eid Namaaz only).
(11) To go walking to the Eid-Gah.
(12) There is no harm in going on any sort of transport, but for the one who can walk it is most prominent for him to do so, and there is no harm in coming back on any sort of transport.
(13) When going for Eid Namaaz choose one path, and when coming back come on from another path.
(14) Before Eid Namaaz giving Sadqa-e-Fitr (charity) (it is better to give this before Eid Namaaz but if you cannot then give it after the Namaaz).
(15) Showing happiness.
(16) Give a lot of charity.
(17) To go to Eid-Gah relaxed and dignified, with the gaze lowered.
(18) Congratulate one another.
(19) After Eid Namaaz shaking hands, and embracing one another, like the usual custom of the Muslims, is even better since it shows affection.
(20) Eid–ul-Adha is like Eid-ul-Fitr in every sense except for that in Eid-ul-Adha it is desirable not to eat anything before prayer, whether he wants to give sacrifice or not, and if he has eaten there is no harm.
(21) While going for Eid-ul-Fitr Namaaz one should slowly say “Takbeer” and while going for Eid-ul-Adha one should say the “Takbeer” loudly on the way. The following is called “Takbeer”:

‘ALLAHU-AKBAR, ALLAHU-AKBAR, LAAILAAHA IL’LAL’LAAHU WALLAHU AKBAR, ALLAHU-AKBAR, WA’LILLA HIL HAMD’.
Translation: “Allah is most great. Allah is most great. There is none worthy of Worship except Allah and Allah is most great. Allah is most Great and all the praise is for Allah.”

For a festival that means so much to the Muslims, it is needful to celebrate it in a special and unique way. You just need to plan yourself a bit and go through the tips listed below to make this Eid a special holiday that it really is.

1. Plan beforehand. You can arrange for a family meeting nearly a week ago and decide on what you would do on the Eid day.

2. Talk about Prophet Ibrahim’s sacrifice.

3. Be sure that the menu is decided from beforehand. Try to take into consideration the personal choice of each of your family member. As far as the cooking is concerned, divide the responsibility among all .Make sure that everyone takes a break from their commitments and lends a helping hand.

4. Clean and decorate the home. Everyone should be involved in this. Try to make the house squeaky clean. You can also consider whitewashing the house if the weather permits.

5. Cook something special and removed from what your family normally eats.Eid is a special occasion and the food we eat on that day should also be special and better from our usual meals.

6. Exchange gifts among the family members. There is a fun way of doing this. The name of each one is written on a piece of paper and put in a Kufi. Each person is allowed to pull out one strip of paper. Whoever picks a person’s name has to buy that person a gift.

7. Get your family members new clothes. New clothes add a special charm to any celebration. You can also get the best of your clothes washed and dry cleaned. As you plan for new clothes, find out items that have grown useless. Arrange to sell these items through a garage sale and donate the money raised to a local Masjid or buy Eid gifts for the needy.

8. Share Eid with your neighbors.

9. You can pay a visit to a homeless shelter or food bank and donate your extra Eid food.

10. Make it a point to visit relatives and friends who stays far away.

Enjoy the Eid Day…

It is the “Feast of Sacrifice” which is also known as Baqra-Eid (the “Cow Festival”) because its most important feature is the sacrifice of an animal (cow, goat, sheep, or other appropriate beast) in commemoration of the ram sacrificed by Abraham in place of his son. The sacrificial animal should be healthy and free of defects and be more than one year old.
